It all started while having a random conference call with my friends in the evening on 29th December 2019. I came up with a plan to welcome 2020 on road rather than in a pub. It took some time to convince but the discussion materialized and we four were all set to explore the grandiose of the Thar Desert in the state of Rajasthan for the first four days of the fast approaching new year. It was decided that the first destination shall be Bikaner and rest may follow as we go with the flow.
The plan was to head to Jaisalmer today and also visit Gajner Palace which is hardly 35 kms out of Bikaner and on the way to Jaisalmer. The total distance for the day was approximately 340 kms which would take us around 5 hrs and also another 1-1.5 hrs to see the palace midway.
Akal Wood Fossil Park is a very well maintained park having fossils of trees dating back to 180 million years. We also met with a special guest inside the park. It was an Emu. They were fun to play with and we spend some time playing with them and having a deep discussion about fossils while walking around the park.
While roaming around in the fort we had a maggi and by now we were quite hungry as it was time for dinner. So we googled some places to eat and zeroed in on the one next to the fort to enjoy some good North Indian Food. We still had no idea where to sleep for the night. So, we came up with a plan to spend the night in a camp near Sam Sand Dunes.
